How to Configure the PayPal Sandbox (cont.)
Create a Customer Account
In order to test your website's integration with PayPal, you must create a user account in the PayPal Sandbox. The user account needs a credit card and a bank account. To set up a customer account, do the following:
1.
Log into PayPal Developer Central and go to the Sandbox page. The Test Accounts grid should list the business account you created in the previous sections.
2.
Click the Create Account link. A new PayPal window opens.
3.
Select the Personal Account option and click the Continue button. The sign up page for a Personal Account appears.
4.
Enter the information required to set up the account. Remember that you can use any email address you wish. Just be sure to remember it and the password. You'll need both because Express Checkout requires that you log in as the test user. Once you have checked the agreement checkboxes and entered the security code, click the Sign Up button. The Account Sign up page appears, asking you to confirm your email address.
5.
Switch back to the browser window containing PayPal Developer Central. Go to the Email page. You should see a new email for the test account. It's subject should be set to "Activate Your PayPal Account".
6.
Click on the Subject. A separate window appears, displaying the email. Copy the link from the body of the email and paste it into your browser. Go to the link. PayPal asks you to enter the password for the test account.
7.
Enter the password for the account and click the Confirm button. PayPal says the email has been confirmed and asks you to enter your bank account.
8.
Your test account will need a bank account and a credit card. Click the Continue button. A page with a lot of words appears.
9.
If you scroll to the very bottom, you'll see a Get Verified link. Please click it. The Get Verified page appears.
10.
Click the Add Bank button. You're directed to a page where you can enter information about the bank.
11.
PayPal has already selected a routing number and account number for the bank. Fill in the bank name and click the Continue button. A Get Verified page appears.
12.
Click the Confirm Bank button. A page appears, asking you to complete the bank confirmation.
13.
Click the Submit button. The test account's bank is confirmed.
14.
Click the Continue button. Another page appears. It's unimportant. Please click the Go to My Account button. You are returned to the account's Overview page.
15.
At this point, your test account has a bank account. However, if you want to test Direct Payment then you must add a credit card. Click the Add Credit Card link in the upper left corner. A page titled Add Credit Card or Debit Card is displayed.
16.
PayPal generates a credit card number for you. Change the expiration date so that it is in the future.
17.
Write down the credit card number, expiration date, and security code. You'll need them when you test Direct Payment.
18.
Click the Add Card button. The credit card is saved and you are returned to the account's Overview page.
Congratulations! You have finished the set up for your test accounts. You're now ready to test your website with the PayPal sandbox.
